My name is Robert Holmes and I am the SharePoint Guy. I have decided to start blogging to share with the world all that I have been learning, but mostly to have the important stuff in one location for my own reference. I have been focusing mostly on SharePoint, MOSS and WSS, but in general need to learn about many parts of the Microsoft tecnology stacks, and will share here all that I deem to be of importance.
I work exclusively with Microsoft products and have explicitly made that decision for myself for a couple of reasons. First is that the world of technology is so wide that I need to limit what I want to focus on and that is a good high level to use. I have done work in the last few years using open source tools, and have learned from those experiences, among other things, that to be more than someone who knows a little about a lot of things, it is necessary to make that kind of distinction.
The other reason is that Microsoft has the full spectrum covered, and produces solid products that allow developers, like me, to be productive solving real world business problems. One thing I learned from open source is that it is hit and miss as to what is available, and how productive one can be. For me, I want to focus on solving the problems at hand, and as little time as possible learning the intricacies of the platform at hand. I have conluded that Microsoft does the best job of giving that to me.
Part of my point is that haters need not apply. If you hate Microsoft, this is not the place to be. On the other hand if you know of a better way to do something, please let me know. Again it is a pragmatic choice, so I do my best to be open to alternatives.
So let the posts begin ...
